Bluebird Cottage School is a preschool and Kindergarten for children ages 2-7. We are one big happy family in a one room schoolhouse, but luckily for us, we have the 1300 acres of beautiful Foxhollow Farm as our outdoor classroom. Bluebird Cottage School was founded in September of 2019 by Marybeth Legler. Ms. Marybeth has been an early childhood educator for 24 years. The curriculum of Bluebird Cottage School blends elements of the Waldorf, Montessori and Reggio Emilia pedagogies. Students in the Cottage learn through play, art, stories, music and ample time outdoors. We value life skills and the children in our program learn to garden, prepare nourishing foods, care for their environments, and to practice independence at a young age. Our mission is to empower our students to create a better world.
Bluebird Cottage School has five teachers on staff each day to meet the varying needs of our mixed age class. In addition to a lead teacher, we have an art teacher, a practical arts teacher, an outdoor specialist, and an academics teacher for our older students. Our curriculum follows the rhythm of the year and the seasons. At this point in the year, our songs, stories and art themes reflect what the children are experiencing in the natural world- the harvest, butterfly migration,seed saving and the transition from summer to autumn. Each piece of our student's daily curriculum, from art to songs to academics, reflects what is happening in nature. We are so grateful that we have been able to create such a wonderful learning environment on Foxhollow Farm.
