July Sunset Concert Series Non-Profit: Kentucky Refugee Ministries

Part of the mission of Foxhollow Farm is to bring the community together. It is out of this spirit that we host multiple events throughout the year including the Fall Festival and Sunset Concert Series. At our next Sunset Concert on July 13th, we are proud to support some of the newest members of the Kentucky community by welcoming nonprofit partner Kentucky Refugee Ministries.

KRM in the Community

Kentucky Refugee Ministries  makes Kentucky home for refugees. They have been compassionately welcoming people who are displaced from their homes since 1990. KRM is a local n

on-profit organization dedicated to providing resettlement services to refugees through faith- and agency-based co-sponsorship in order to promote self-sufficiency and successful integration into our community. In recent years, individuals resettled through KRM are from Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Burma, Bhutan, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Somalia.

Services include initial resettlement support; case management; health and wellness coordination; classes for ESL, driver's education, and citizenship; employment services; family and youth programs; elder programming; and immigration legal services.

In the midst of continued administrative challenges to the refugee program, KRM advocates for and with individuals seeking safety and refuge. We believe newcomers enrich our communities and that everyone should be treated with dignity.

The halls of KRM are filled with diverse stories from people who are rebuilding their lives in Louisville. Ramez, his wife, and three children arrived in Kentucky in January 2017 after fleeing their home in Syria for Turkey. About one year after arriving in Louisville, Ramez became a Bilingual Associate Instructor in Jefferson County Public Schools! Previously, he taught in Syria and Turkey for over 11 years. He states that one of his favorite wisdoms is, “A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.”

Despite the growing Syrian refugee crisis, KRM has not welcomed any Syrian refugees to Louisville in over a year.

To read more about Ramez and other new Louisvillians, visit KRM’s story section.
